LinkedIn Tips To Boost Your Visibility In 2022

LinkedIn is a fantastic tool for professionals across the board – there’s no doubt about that. Whether you’re looking to find your next dream job or generate targeted leads for your business without touching a telephone, LinkedIn can help you do it. But it’s not the easiest thing to get right, particularly with so much at stake. So you need to know how to use it properly. Your LinkedIn game might be pretty good – but to become a LinkedIn master and make it work for you (rather than the other way around), you need to step it up a bit. And because we’re curious, we scoured the web for the top 1% of LinkedIn users and found their suggestions for making LinkedIn successful for you. Then we collated everything together and produced 3 easy tips to help you make the most of LinkedIn and become a master networker online. (If you want to know the rest of their tips, you’ll have to come to ask us).

Update Your Profile

Before you start working out what to post and where you first need to take a step back and look at what you’re working with. Having an effective profile is a key part of mastering LinkedIn, and it’s worth spending some time bringing it all up to scratch. Our advice? Start from the top and work down. Make sure your name and location are all correct, spend some time crafting an intriguing headline and update your profile to something professional (drinking cocktails on the beach is a big no-no, sorry). Your summary should explain exactly what you do and use relevant keywords to help you be found in searches. Make sure everything you include is up to date, correct, and most importantly relevant to what you’re trying to achieve with LinkedIn. A big accountancy firm isn’t going to care if you were first chair violin in the school orchestra. By spending some time sprucing up your profile, you will find your LinkedIn presence starts going up by itself.

Work On Your Invitations

LinkedIn is very good in some ways – one being that it gives you a default message to connect with new people. It looks something like this:
‘Hi. I’d like to join your LinkedIn network!’
Unfortunately, although it does the job, that message isn’t great. And because people know it’s the default message, many aren’t all that impressed with it. In fact, some users won’t give default invitations a chance – they will just delete them. So if you’re looking to grow your network in the New Year, one of the ways you can start is by personalising your invitations. You don’t have to write essays – but a short note about how you came across them and why you would like to connect with them – and how you would be willing to help them – is a good way to start. Personal invitations tend to get more positive responses than the basic template invitations and are a great way to start a conversation with the person you’re connecting with – which is presumably your goal in the first place!

Publish on LinkedIn Pulse

The top 1% of users on LinkedIn are the ones who really understand how to utilise every feature. LinkedIn Pulse is a fantastic tool that essentially allows you to blog directly into LinkedIn. Because LinkedIn prioritises articles on its own platform (why wouldn’t it?), your posts are going to be seen by more people both in and outside of your network. By posting on Pulse, you can start reaching out to LinkedIn’s 32 million members. But don’t just publish a short intro promotion for your business. LinkedIn isn’t an online marketplace, and people don’t go there with the intention to buy things. Instead, people go there to network, to learn and to develop their own businesses. So instead, make sure you are posting full length (but under 1000 words), informative articles designed to make people think and teach them something. This kind of article tends to get the most traffic, the most response, and generate more profile views than any other LinkedIn technique.
See, it really is that simple. LinkedIn is an awesome social network for business users, and it can be one of your best sales tools – if you’re willing to put the work into it. Getting your profile up to scratch might be step one, but once you’ve done it you need to spend time every day getting to know LinkedIn and interacting with people on it. If that sounds like it’ll eat up too much of your time, or you don’t know where to start with changing your profile, we can help. Our experts have years of experience using LinkedIn to build brand awareness, relationships, source workers and promote offers, so we’re sure we can support you in meeting your LinkedIn goals for the year.
